An early start today as we were booked onto one of those dreaded big bus tours to visit Naples and Pompeii.  A huge day of travel and sights for sure but the promise of visiting the ruins of Pompeii had us both leaping out of bed (well I lie, we both stumbled out bleary eyed with many groans and a few scratchy comments but we got out of bed so that’s an achievement right).

I won’t lie – there weren’t many options for getting to Pompeii that worked for our preferred day and budget and mental ability to cope.  I was nervous about us catching the train there on our own and hiring a local guide so tried to find a tour that went there #mistake 1.   All the really good tours were private ones but I would’ve had to auction off a lung, both kids and make a few porn films to financially make that happen so I compromised and booked a big bus tour that had the best reviews of a bad bunch.  What a d!@khead I was! (I still have no idea why it costs so much for private tours to Pompeii…ouch)

You already know where this blog post is heading don’t you…..

We surprised ourselves by getting a great nights sleep, waking up early, getting ready and heading up to the rooftop terrace for breakfast.  Everything was set out as a delicious buffet…..brimming with meats, cheeses, breads, fruit, yoghurt and danishes galore!!!!  A piglet with zero self controls dream (oink oink).

Need to just tell you a little bit about our fabulous little hotel.  Built in 1787 *so she’s a spring chicken* with the slowest lift in the world so we’ve decided the 4 floors are to be walked which should help with all that pasta and pizza I’m inhaling on an hourly basis.  The location is perfectamundo, right in the heart of the historical area and in theory we can walk to everything so again…..forced body movement is a good thing right? (ummm no screams my aching feet lol).  Room is great, floorboards instead of carpet which seems to be the Italian way.  Still loving the rooftop terrace, everyone needs one of these things especially with the cute smiling waiter that makes cappuccinos each morning….

After many months of planning and more hype than Bruce becoming Caitlin – we are on our way.  Of course as with anything we do there are always some glitches and funnies along the way so rather than keep these boring tales to myself I’m going to bore you guys with them.

Well finally it is here – D Day!!!!

• D is for Departing from all parental unit responsibilities (insert snoopy happy dance here)
• D is for Don’t bother me with work stuff (and don’t have any babies while I am away)
• D is for Dining out and don’t have to cook
• D is for Don’t know a single person in these countries – woot woot
• D is for  the Delights of awesomeness we are about to see
• D is for Diet (what freaking diet)
• D is for Drinking prosecco morning noon and night *obviously*
• D is for DEFCON 5 tantrum mode whilst trying to get cases to weigh under the limit
• D is for Don’t miss me too much you
• D is for Don’t have enough words to describe how excited I am
• D is for DAMN….how in donkeykong have husband and I been married for so long when we only look 25 yrs old
• D is for Don’t be too jealous about my fabulous holiday
• and finally D is for we DID IT!!!!!  20 years is pretty impressive stuff
